Speaking at the event, Ekhalume told
the corps members to always be of good behavior throughout their
stay in camp and during the service year.
Meanwhile, Celtel Nigeria has announced the appointment John Earley
as its new Chief Technical Officer.
Earley, a seasoned telecommunications professional with 30 years
experience in the industry, will replace Thomas Jonnel, who recently
left the company.
The new CTO has worked for both operators
and vendors in Africa and many countries around the World and has
built from start up and operated fixed and mobile networks and has
extensive technical and managerial experience in the industry.
Celtel Nigeria's Chief Executive Officer,
Bayo Ligali, who announced the appointment, described the new CTO
“as an expert, who has come at a crucial time in the development
of the company.
“Earley's appointment strategically complements the massive
investments we are currently making in our network in terms of coverage
expansion, capacity enhancement and quality improvement.
“With his wide experience in
the industry, Earley will drive the process of rapid expansion going
on in our network and harness the resources we are investing to
achieve the level of network integrity required to take us to the
next level”, Ligali added.
Previously, John Earley worked with
Wataniya Telecom in the Maldives and Millicom (now Tigo) in the
Democratic Republic of Congo both as CTO and prior to that as Regional
General Manager West Africa for Alan Dick.
His first senior management role was
at 24 years old, when he formed a company serving as Technical Director
to design and manufacture the first cordless telephones in the UK.
He later worked in the USA where he was responsible for the first
digital rural telephone link designed to bring telephones to small
or remote villages.
