Qatar to add more FM stations

Qatar, the small Persian Gulf nation, already home to Al Jazeera television, is seeking to establish some 54 new commercial FM channels.
The Gulf Times reported that a request was made for the allocations to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) at the opening of the Third Gulf Cooperating Council (GCC) Coordination Meeting on FM Channels, hosted by the Qatari Supreme Council of Information and Communication Technology .

Telekom Austria upgrades IPTV

Safaricom launches 3G service in Kenya

MTN gives hope to xenophobia victims

MTN has announced that it has contributed over R2,1 million in cash and in kind to support the South African Red Cross Society (Red Cross) in their efforts to help those affected by the violent attacks on foreign nationals and some South Africans in parts of the country.

Algeria Announces Tender for 3G Licenses 

Algeria's telecoms regulator, ARPT has issued a brief statement announcing plans to issue a tender for 3G licenses. The ARPT has invited operators wishing to establish and operate a 3G mobile communications network to let it know by June 30th, 2008.

Telkom in new offers

Telkom South Africa has received a new takeover approach and a separate offer to buy part of its 50% stake in the country's largest cellular operator, Vodacom. The full takeover offer has come from a consortium headed by South African businessman and politician, Tokyo Sexwale and his firm Mvelaphanda Holdings.
