eastern cities “is part of a phased campaign that will take Reltelwireless products and services to all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria”. According to Ibekaku, the launch of services in these cities is strategic by virtue of their position as sub-regional hubs. “With the commencement of services in these cities our commitment to making excellent telecommunication services available to the underserved areas would be realized. These cities would be part of the new South-east region consisting of Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Umuahia, Orlu, Ihiala, Owerri, Abakaliki and Nsukka with Enugu as the headquarters”. He further stated that the company roll-out projections would see its services covering 51 towns and cities before the end of this year. “Our strategy is to expand aggressively and extensively across the country, so that our customers can derive maximum value from our services. We are deepening our capacity and working on our transmission network. This would see more cities like Benin, Warri, Sapele, Calabar, Eket, Uyo, Makurdi, Kano and Jos being part of the network and fully operating in no distant time”. It would be recalled that Reltelwireless had earlier acquired the Unified Access Service License with national spectrum license, covering the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, thus making it one of the few telecommunications operators in the country, and the first CDMA operator to be granted the license. Reltelwireless currently operates in 18 cities and is ringing in more than 117 towns. These cities include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Aba, Owerri, Orlu, Ihiala, Umuahia, Onitsha, Asaba, Enugu, Ibadan, Awka, Nnewi, Kaduna, Zaria, Abakaliki and Nsukka. |

| …Excites Nigerian children | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Reltelwireless, Nigeria's foremost telecommunications solutions provider, recently treated some Nigerian children, selected from various public schools in Abuja, to a series of mentoring, humanitarian and personal development activities, as part of the 2008 Children's and Youth Day celebrations. The activities which were co-coordinated by an Abuja-based firm, Trim Communications, included a 3-hour interactive session with the Honourable Minister in charge of the FCT, Alhaji Aliyu Modibbo Umar, visits to the Nigeria Television Authority and DBN TV, the Yeye Orphanage Gwarimpa, and a host of other fun activities. Head, Corporate Communications of Reltelwireless,
Oge Udeagha, stated that there was both a corporate social responsibility
and a business case for the initiative. “On the business side, we also believe that as a company with a long term vision for the Nigerian nation and its people, our future is better secured if children, who will be the decision makers of tomorrow, understand and buy into the vision of the company. This is a project we are proud to be associated with, and we look forward to making this an annual event, with more children from other parts of the country participating”, Udeagha said. Reltelwireless has consistently positioned itself
as a people-centric company, committed to working with the Nigerian government
in making telecommunications services available to all cadres of the society.
This has been made manifest in the company's trail blazing effort in reducing
the cost of acquisition and tariffs in the industry. |

| MTN flags off 21 Days of Y'ello Care | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
For 21 days in June, staff of Nigeria's leading telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria across the country will embark on a series of community based activities under a programme known as 21 Days of Y'ello Care. It is the second edition of the programme initiated last year by the
MTN Group to encourage staff of the company in all its 21 operations in
Africa, Asia and the Middle East to volunteer their resources, time and
skills to help others and the communities they live and work in. For this year's edition, MTN Nigeria has adopted the theme 'Beyond the
call of duty' to encourage staff to go beyond what they do for a living
and deploy their skills to the benefit of society. MTN staff who are qualified in various professions such as accounting
or Information Technology who have been privileged to work in a best practice
organization such as MTN, will endeavour to effect the relevant skills
transfer to their counterparts in the SMEs. During the 21 day programme, MTN staff in Nigeria will also be encouraged to give away material possessions that they are no longer in need of but which can be of tremendous value to the less privileged members of the society. “For MTN, the concept of corporate social responsibility is deeply
entrenched in our culture and we show that we are a caring organization
all year round. But 21 Days of Y'ello Care offers a unique platform to
get our staff personally involved in showing love, care and attention
to our people and our communities', explained Amina Oyagbola, MTN's Corporate
Services Executive. “MTN is the only telecommunications company that dedicates a percentage of its profit after tax exclusively to Corporate Social Investment initiatives,” she said adding that as at December 31st 2007, the company through its foundation had 107 project sites in 28 states across Nigeria including the FCT. “For this edition of 21 Days of Y'ello Care, we are going all out
to touch lives, lift people's spirits, make a difference in people's lives
and bring smiles to many faces,” Oyagbola said. |
