Excitement as Glo presents cars in Asaba

It was jubilation galore at Grand Hotel Asaba, where Globacom management handed over the keys of choice cars, such as BMW, Peugeot, Nissan Sunny and Kia Rio to 12 winners of its on-going 'Win and Rule Promo', in which Globacom is giving away 500 brand new cars to its loyal subscribers.
Some of the winners, in ecstatic mood jumped, praising the management of Globacom for living up to expectation by proving to Nigerians that they have genuine

intention to enable its subscribers rule their world and for bringing smiles to the faces of many through the Win and Rule promo. One of the winners of a Kia Rio, Uchenna Echem from Ebonyi State who came with clutches as a result of ghastly motor accident he had sometime ago, said that God has used Globacom to turn his tears to joy by providing him a car when he never expected he could be so rewarded. He continued to chorus “Globacom I thank you o” after receiving the keys to his Kia Rio.

Messrs Happy Anighoro Edegua and Ikeh Christian Mmaduabuchi both took home a brand new BMW 3 series car each. Mmaduabuchi on his part told newsmen later that “God has blessed me through Globacom”.
Addressing the gathering, the Asagba of Asaba, Obi (Prof) Chief Edozien who was represented by his wife, Obi Modupe Edozien called on Nigerians to patronize the Glo network describing it as very effective especially when one is making or receiving international calls. “They said that Globacom has been good to Nigerians and very sensitive to their needs” adding that “they are not just taking money from their customers but giving out to customers as we are witnessing here today”.

In this same vein, wife of the Delta State Deputy Governor, Nelly Utuama while congratulating the winners, said “I enjoin you to spread the good news of what Globacom has done for you”. She called on other Nigerians to embrace the promo and called on Globacom to continue in this light.

Earlier, while welcoming guests to the occasion, Chief Operating Officer of Globacom Mohamed Jameel who was represented by the Zonal Manager, Chudi Nwoye said “at Globacom, we are not just celebrating this promo; we are celebrating a resilient network, a network that continues to grow and earn the confidence of the generality of the people daily”.

Continuing he said “we have demonstrated our commitment towards network improvement by striving to complete our optic fibre installations around the country. In the last few weeks, we have commissioned the installations in Minna, Enugu, Owerri and Onitsha to make qualitative telecoms services, phone calls, data transmission and video communication more accessible for Nigerians”.
It is for this reason, he said, that the Glo network is being expanded massively to accommodate more than 35 million subscribers.

Celtel Nigeria boosts rural business with RAI

Celtel Nigeria has launched a new local entrepreneurship project, Celtel Rural Acquisition Initiative (RAI), aimed at boosting rural business and connecting rural areas to the rest of the world.

Chief Executive Officer of Celtel, Bayo Ligali said Celtel RAI is designed to boost rural business, rural employment, entrepreneurship, empower rural dwellers, and increase the level of community participation in telecom business by offering rural entrepreneurs micro-franchises.
He said under the RAI programme, the mobile operator will franchise base stations in rural and poorest parts of Nigeria where about 70 per cent of Nigerians live and work. About 500 rural base stations are expected to be franchised by the end of 2008, creating 5,000 jobs in the process.

The national rollout of the programme was launched by the Honourable Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, at a ceremony in Abuja.
The new Celtel rural route to market is expected to help the company serve poorer consumers in rural areas- a very massive but still a hugely under-tapped market. The company said the programme is both an entrepreneurship development and a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Ligali observed that rural areas were still largely underserved, adding that analysts forecast that 80% of new net subscriptions

in the Nigerian market over the period 2008-12 will come from rural areas, with a potential rural subscriber base of some 40 million people spread across some 35,000 rural villages. He explained that Celtel will utilize rural entrepreneurs as trade partners or Associate Distributors (ADs) or local entrepreneurs who will be the company's exclusive representatives in their communities.

He said the ADs will be offered a relevant Celtel products and services portfolio including specifically introduced low denomination recharge cards or vouchers.
The ADs will be responsible for level one Base Station maintenance and security of Celtel equipment in their localities.

They will operate on a revenue sharing basis, will be supervised by larger distributors or trade partners and will be given a Start up pack including Stand Alone branded shelter (Kiosk), In store point of sale and merchandising materials, tailored rural brand communication , materials for outdoor, a manned payphone and brand new scooter or motorcycle. Celtel commenced RAI, first as a pilot project, in mid 2007, with the aim of profitably reaching about 50% of Nigerian population that reside and work in rural areas.

Reltel wireless live in more cities

Reltelwireless has commenced operations in Abakaliki, Nsukka, Orlu and Ihiala in the South-eastern region as part of its on going roll-out plan which will ensure that the telecommunications company covers Nigeria with its products and services.
Newswire Nigeria reports that at a press briefing recently, Chief Technical Officer, Reltelwireless, Andy Ibekaku, said that commencement of services in the four South-

eastern cities “is part of a phased campaign that will take Reltelwireless products and services to all the nooks and crannies of Nigeria”.

According to Ibekaku, the launch of services in these cities is strategic by virtue of their position as sub-regional hubs. “With the commencement of services in these cities our commitment to making excellent telecommunication services available to the underserved areas would be realized. These cities would be part of the new South-east region consisting of Aba, Onitsha, Enugu, Umuahia, Orlu, Ihiala, Owerri, Abakaliki and Nsukka with Enugu as the headquarters”.

He further stated that the company roll-out projections would see its services covering 51 towns and cities before the end of this year. “Our strategy is to expand aggressively and extensively across the country, so that our customers can derive maximum value from our services. We are deepening our capacity and working on our transmission network. This would see more cities like Benin, Warri, Sapele, Calabar, Eket, Uyo, Makurdi, Kano and Jos being part of the network and fully operating in no distant time”.

It would be recalled that Reltelwireless had earlier acquired the Unified Access Service License with national spectrum license, covering the 36 states of Nigeria, including the Federal Capital Territory, thus making it one of the few telecommunications operators in the country, and the first CDMA operator to be granted the license.

Reltelwireless currently operates in 18 cities and is ringing in more than 117 towns. These cities include Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, Aba, Owerri, Orlu, Ihiala, Umuahia, Onitsha, Asaba, Enugu, Ibadan, Awka, Nnewi, Kaduna, Zaria, Abakaliki and Nsukka.

…Excites Nigerian children

Reltelwireless, Nigeria's foremost telecommunications solutions provider, recently treated some Nigerian children, selected from various public schools in Abuja, to a series of mentoring, humanitarian and personal development activities, as part of the 2008 Children's and Youth Day celebrations.

The activities which were co-coordinated by an Abuja-based firm, Trim Communications, included a 3-hour interactive session with the Honourable Minister in charge of the FCT, Alhaji Aliyu Modibbo Umar, visits to the Nigeria Television Authority and DBN TV, the Yeye Orphanage Gwarimpa, and a host of other fun activities.

Head, Corporate Communications of Reltelwireless, Oge Udeagha, stated that there was both a corporate social responsibility and a business case for the initiative.
“We are of the view that, as a truly Nigerian company, exposing our children to open and frank interactions with highly placed members of society will provide them with an opportunity to learn, first hand, how governments function, develop their public speaking skills, while at the same time providing government officials with an insight into the needs and expectations of young Nigerians.

“On the business side, we also believe that as a company with a long term vision for the Nigerian nation and its people, our future is better secured if children, who will be the decision makers of tomorrow, understand and buy into the vision of the company. This is a project we are proud to be associated with, and we look forward to making this an annual event, with more children from other parts of the country participating”, Udeagha said.

Reltelwireless has consistently positioned itself as a people-centric company, committed to working with the Nigerian government in making telecommunications services available to all cadres of the society. This has been made manifest in the company's trail blazing effort in reducing the cost of acquisition and tariffs in the industry.

MTN flags off 21 Days of Y'ello Care

For 21 days in June, staff of Nigeria's leading telecommunications company, MTN Nigeria across the country will embark on a series of community based activities under a programme known as 21 Days of Y'ello Care.

It is the second edition of the programme initiated last year by the MTN Group to encourage staff of the company in all its 21 operations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East to volunteer their resources, time and skills to help others and the communities they live and work in.
Last year, MTN staff across Nigeria participated in more than 70 different volunteer activities such as clearing drains, tree planting, cleaning public places, traffic control, visits to hospitals and orphanages as well as career and counselling visits to high schools.

For this year's edition, MTN Nigeria has adopted the theme 'Beyond the call of duty' to encourage staff to go beyond what they do for a living and deploy their skills to the benefit of society.
MTN staff will once again participate in a broad range of programmes classified under two main groups: Business Transformers and I Care, respectively. The Business Transformers group will undertake coaching sessions on successful business management with small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs).

MTN staff who are qualified in various professions such as accounting or Information Technology who have been privileged to work in a best practice organization such as MTN, will endeavour to effect the relevant skills transfer to their counterparts in the SMEs.
Under the second group, I Care, MTN staff will volunteer their time and other resources to show care to less privileged members of the society. Some of such activities will include visits to orphanages, old people's homes, prisons, hospitals and other places where they can give succour and support to the underprivileged.

During the 21 day programme, MTN staff in Nigeria will also be encouraged to give away material possessions that they are no longer in need of but which can be of tremendous value to the less privileged members of the society.

“For MTN, the concept of corporate social responsibility is deeply entrenched in our culture and we show that we are a caring organization all year round. But 21 Days of Y'ello Care offers a unique platform to get our staff personally involved in showing love, care and attention to our people and our communities', explained Amina Oyagbola, MTN's Corporate Services Executive.
According to Oyagbola, 21 Days of Y'ello Care is consistent with MTN's commitment to contributing to the socio-economic well being of its host communities, adding that since MTN commenced operation in Nigeria in 2001, the company has successfully implemented numerous Corporate Social Investment initiatives, through the MTN Foundation, that have directly impacted over a million people across the country.

“MTN is the only telecommunications company that dedicates a percentage of its profit after tax exclusively to Corporate Social Investment initiatives,” she said adding that as at December 31st 2007, the company through its foundation had 107 project sites in 28 states across Nigeria including the FCT.

“For this edition of 21 Days of Y'ello Care, we are going all out to touch lives, lift people's spirits, make a difference in people's lives and bring smiles to many faces,” Oyagbola said.
The programme kicks off on 1 June, with all the activities taking place simultaneously across Nigeria. It will be rounded off with a family party in Lagos on 21 June.

Celtel Dealers return from China

Celtel Trade Partners who have been on a business visit to the Peoples Republic of China have described the trip as an eye-opener. The Dealers, who arrived Nigeria recently enthused that they learned vital lessons from the Chinese companies they visited as well as the people of China.

Managing Director of Seaman Ventures, Emeka Agbanari, summed up the feelings of the team describing the trip as not only rewarding but also relaxing.
He explained that they have learned new things, explored new business relationships, deepened their understanding of the telecoms trade, and also had the opportunity to envision the future of telecom products and services distribution business in Nigeria in alliance with Celtel Nigeria.

The business empowerment trip was sponsored by Celtel Nigeria to help the Dealers improve on their knowledge of the telecom business, develop new business links, learn key lessons from the Chinese mobile market and relax from the hustle and bustle of daily trading activities.
