What distinguishes NIIT from other similar IT Learning Centres?

Differentiators are many, right from NIIT Education & Training Methodology to Delivery of Quality. Centre for Research in Cognitive Sciences (CRCS), a research wing of NIIT, is behind developing the proprietary teaching methodology called 'LACC'. Besides what is taught in NIIT is relevant and is endorsed by the Corporate/ Industrial world. Hence, an NIITian is productive from day one in the work place.

This has made the Certificate from NIIT a distinction in itself. At this point of time, no one is close to our size and quality. Our content development facility was the first in the world to be assessed and certified at the SEI CMM Level 5.

NIIT's Learning Architecture based on Collaborative Constructivism (LACC) methodology has the following learning components: Construct: The learning begins with this component. An instructor who is a subject matter expert leads the students on the foundation of the concept. This component introduces the learner to new concepts and thereby constructing his/her strong knowledge base.
Collaborate:

The next learning component makes it possible for the learner to have contextual familiarity on the subject through collaborative learning. Here the learner is provided with a mentor/direction/ and stimulus for reflective observation. The learner is provided with a rich choice of tools like case studies, scenario/problem statements and best practices to reflect on the concepts learnt in the previous sessions and apply his/her understanding in the larger context.

Experiment: Here, the learner is exposed to active experimentation. The learner experiments his/her understanding of the concepts and observations to form a logical conclusion leading to better learning effectiveness and experience.Apply: This learning component provides the environment for learners to develop conceptual clarity. Here the learner learns, refers, compares, thinks and applies his/her entire knowledge spectrum and creates solutions for a real life case study. The tools used to provide such learning are project, information search and analysis skills (ISAS) and reference reading (RR).
At NIIT student passes through this learning methodology and have definite edge over the other. Thus they are trained to perform better in life.

How is a prospective student, professional, beginner etc able to make an informed and appropriate choice of career/ course to pursue?

We at NIIT have different programs for different people, which are linked to the purpose and the requirement of the prospective learner. At every centre, we have counselors who are well trained to guide the people looking for a suitable program. Our aptitude test, which is administered on each student, acts as an aid to the counselors in guiding the learner to make a decision for the program.

The holistic approach is that the candidate must draw the benefits of the program and improve his career prospects.

New Horizons setting standards
There is a remarkable surge in the number of corporate and individuals seeking training in Information Technology (IT) in Nigeria. This is moreso when IT is taking root in the country’s economic system.
With the sustained growth of information technology in the country, Nigerians are getting to vie for a chunk of knowledge on the evolving technologies involved in handling the processes of IT. Training is a process of empowering individuals to expound and utilize knowledge available to them.
The quest for knowledge has increased with the evolving technology. The need for education on information technology has been highlighted by the entrant of more IT training institutes. Nigerian IT institutions have been receiving accolades over their standard of training and products.
Recently New Horizons, a global computer learning center with a full fledge subsidiary in Nigeria bagged the Microsoft Gold Certification in 108 of its networks including Nigeria. The Nigeria subsidiary also was awarded West Africa’s Best IT Skills Training; Company of the Year Award by the Institute of Direct Marketing of Nigeria (IDMAN).
In training, New Horizons has also gone into schools to train students with the knowledge that grooming young students would be more beneficial to the society. These schools in Lagos include Doregos Academy, Oxbridge and Legacy Schools.
New horizons seeks to foster the development if IT amongst secondary schools in Lagos State. To this end it has set up a competition among schools and has divided the schools into zones. It also, recently undertook a free two-week training course for journalists.
The goal of the project is to train Nigerians who will produce computers, computer accessories and write software that is better than what is found in USA, Europe, India and China, thereby making Nigeria known for IT and a force to reckon with in the informationage and invariably boost economic prosperity. India is known for its IT training skills, Nigeria, with its bank of entrepreneurs and IT practitioners, can rise above what India has been able to achieve with adequate training and harnessing of its human capital through IT.
IT training in Nigeria is at its teething stage but has proven that like the GSM, it has great prospects.
Aptech Nigeria, one of the leading IT training institutes, has predicted that by the year 2010, 95 percent of the Nigerian population will be able to use IT effectively to run business activities. This is in view of the rate at which Nigerians are catching up with the rest of the world in embracing IT and the demand for IT professionals in Nigeria, which is growing at a rate of over 15 percent. Skill acquisition is well needed in all sectors, more especially in financial institutions; IT literacy is the first step to achieving this.
While there is a growth in the number of individuals seeking certification from companies, hence going for trainings, there is also an increasing number of individuals acquiring training for the sole purpose of literacy and enhanced work efficiency. This number increases as the need for IT

knowledge increases in companies. Mini computer training centers have also shared in this quest to further increase knowledge of IT in the country. These computer-training centers have contributed immensely in equipping Nigerians, with minimal charges, for IT challenges and awareness.
Concentration has been on basic computer appreciations, but due to corporate need for more advanced training packages, companies have been able to arrange for staff IT training in areas such as security, e-business and networking, among others.
Today, global IT companies such as New Horizons, Aptech and NIIT among others, have shifted focus from India to Nigeria, this is an opportunity Nigerians need to utilize and are utilizing to bridge the touted digital divide and stand tall in Africa to be counted in the global IT manpower market.
