| IDC's
Annual Virtualization And Datacentre Roadshow 2008 Is Here
|
|
| Starting
in October and running through November, IDC's annual Storage,
Virtualization, and Data Centers Roadshow 2008 will provide
an excellent opportunity to hear and discuss the latest trends
and developments in data storage.
Stopping in 16 cities across Central and Eastern Europe, the
Middle East, and Africa (CEMA), this event will feature presentations
from respected storage professionals, IDC analysts, and experts
from the main regional partners of Novell, Iron Mountain,
IBM, Microsoft, HP, Fujitsu Siemens, BT, Tyco Electronics,
Nebula, and Symantec.
Traditionally, IDC's Storage Roadshow provides attendees with
a perspective on burning issues of the day in the area of
data management.
Respecting differences in market maturity and storage technology
adoption across the region, this year the event will add new
topics, such as virtualization, cost control, power efficiency,
and legislative requirements for handling corporate data.
“The information explosion has put an incredible burden
on already taxed IT resources, generating increased interest
in both improved hardware and management tools,” says
Jyoti Lalchandani, VP and Regional Manager, IDC EMEA.

 |
|
“Concepts
such as automation, information lifecycle management
(ILM), virtualization, and data center consolidation
have emerged not only as means to handle data, but also
as methods for reducing costs, increasing ROI, and optimizing
TCO.”
IDC's storage tracker research shows that growth in
storage system spending in CEMA was 17% in 2007, while
capacity grew by a staggering 80%.
External storage systems accounted for a full 73% of
the total storage market value.
Midrange disk storage systems have demonstrated the
most dynamic growth in the region, |

with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) emerging as the major
buyers of midrange solutions.
The roadshow creates a forum that helps organizations address
a full range of data management issues, bringing together
data management specialists, CIOs, COOs, IT managers, and
IT planners and strategists from end-user organizations with
both respected data storage professionals and leading experts
from IDC and partner organizations.
From October through November, the roadshow will make stops
in the following cities:
Lagos -October 09, Istanbul-October 15, Nairobi-October 16
and Johannesburg-November 27.

2008 Focuses On Leadership |
|
 |
|
Leadership, which has been variously
described as the nemesis of the developing world,
will form the fulcrum of this year's edition of eNNOVATE
2008, Nigeria's expo and conference on technological
innovation.
Organised by the duo of the communications consulting
firm of XLR8 and the Ken Nnamani Centre for Leadership
and Development, respectively, the theme of this year's
edition is “Leveraging technology for leadership
and development”.
It is billed to hold at the Shehu Musa Yar'Adua Centre,
Abuja on September 23 and 24.
According to Ambassador, J. U.
Ayalogu, Executive Director of the Ken Nnamani Centre
for Leadership and Development, technology has gradually
become very central to life and living all around
the world.
Indeed he adds, “modern governance revolves
around the concept of connected cities, a trend in
which government corporations are connected with each
other virtually and in real time, in a manner in which
they can interact not only with fellow institutions
of governance but also with citizens.”
eNNOVATE, he said, will examine
the feasibility of this near- ideal

situation
as well as examine the technological tools that can help make
this a reality.
In addition, it will strive to seek more key stakeholder understanding
of the issues that are critical to helping to ensure that
government becomes more open and efficient and in so doing,
increasingly accessible to the governed.
eNNOVATE is an annual technology expo and conference that
has held unbroken since 2005. In that period it has enjoyed
the participation of such world class technology-driven corporations
as Hewlett Packard, Cisco, MTN, Nokia, IBM, DHL and many others.
This year, says eNNOVATE project director, John Awe, the line
up has grown to include such corporations as Multichoice Nigeria,
First Inland Bank, Microsoft, among many others.
