Glo Goes Rural In Benue, Rivers and Bayelsa States

Nigeria's national telecommunications operator, Globacom, is collaborating with the Benue, Rivers and Bayelsa State governments to provide easy and cheap telephone services in rural areas across the three states.

In Benue State, Globacom will provide telecommunications services in four sites in the selected rural areas, install telephone facilities and deploy requisite technical personnel for effective provision of such telecommunications services. Globacom will also supply alternative power for the sites towards ensuring uninterrupted telecommunications signals and service quality in the identified areas.

Eskadenia Wins NOW contract

Jordanian software firm Eskadenia has announced that it has won a contract from Sudanese wireless network operator, Network of the World (NOW) for the deployment of its billing and customer relationship management system.

NOW is currently in the process of rolling out a GSM network in Southern Sudan, which is due to go live in the final quarter of 2008 under the Vivacell brand. It expects to extend network coverage to all Southern Sudanese states..

Kenyan Wananchi Launches Triple-play

The Kenyan ISP Wananchi is set to launch what it claims will be Africa's first triple-play video, data and phone service. The firm is currently deploying WiMAX wireless broadband networks in Nairobi and Mombasa, and plans to have deployed 100 base stations by November.

It has also acquired cable operator Mitsumi TV and has taken a stake in the TEAMS international undersea cable link

Advanced Micro Devices has introduced a series of mainstream graphics processors that start at $69.

Novell May Sue Microsoft

Software giant, Microsoft may be sued by Novell for allegedly conspiring to kill WordPerfect, but that's not stopping the companies from joining forces on other fronts.

The software vendors, which have been collaborating on Windows-Linux interoperability since 2006, said that they will work together to develop virtualization technologies. Face of Africa Contest Returns

The new season of M-Net Face of Africa kicked off recently in Gabarone, Botswana, that will see the team traveling to 12 countries including Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia.
